McCarthy Tétrault partners Alfred Macchione and Barry Sookman named IP Stars

Toronto, June 10, 2014 — McCarthy Tétrault is delighted to announce that partners Alfred Macchione and Barry Sookman were recognized as "IP Stars" by Managing Intellectual Property in the 2014 edition of its Trade Mark & Copyright Handbook. McCarthy Tétrault was also honoured with the following distinction:

Mr. Macchione is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault’s Technology, Communications and Intellectual Property Groups. He is involved in all aspects of the clearance, acquisition, enforcement and exploitation of patents, trade-marks, copyright, designs and other forms of intellectual property, with special emphasis on high technology. He has particular experience in the patenting of inventions in the fields of networked communications, business and financial services processes, software and other forms of computer technology.

Mr. Sookman is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault’s Technology Group and is the former leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. He is recognized as one of Canada’s foremost authorities in information technology, Internet and copyright. Mr. Sookman acts in connection with complex IT/IP transactions and in IT/IP litigation. He has argued numerous precedent-setting cases at all levels of courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada and various courts of appeal.
