McCarthy Tétrault Partner Rob Brant Elected President of Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce
London, May 17, 2012 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that Rob Brant, the Managing Partner of its London office, has been elected President of the Canada–United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce.
"I’m honoured by this appointment," said Mr. Brant. "The Chamber has a 90-year history of promoting and facilitating trade and investment in Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe, and its role is even more important in the current economic climate. I look forward to continuing to help steer and foster opportunities for even more trans-Atlantic business in my new role with the Chamber."
The Chamber is one of the most active international chambers of commerce operating in London. Its approximately 300 members elect a board of directors which currently includes representation from the likes of Air Canada, Bank of Montreal, CGI, CIBC, Ernst & Young, Nexen, Research in Motion, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotia Capital, Shell International and TD Bank. The Chamber regularly hosts senior business leaders, such as David Denison, the President and CEO of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, who spoke at a Chamber luncheon in London this week, and the chief economists of Canada’s six largest banks, who will take part again this June in an annual panel discussion hosted by the Chamber. The Chamber also maintains strong ties with governmental and other bodies, such as the Canadian High Commission, Canadian provincial governments represented in London, the British High Commission and British and Canadian chambers of commerce and boards of trade. In recent years, the Chamber has welcomed many official dignitaries to its events, including sitting Canadian and British Prime Ministers, and former Heads of State.
