McCarthy Tétrault Partner Michael Feder Receives Honorary Title of Queen’s Counsel

Vancouver, December 10, 2018 – McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that Michael Feder, partner in the firm’s Vancouver office, has been appointed Queen’s Counsel by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General for British Columbia. The Q.C. designation is an honorary title conferred on lawyers to recognize exceptional merit, contribution, professional integrity and character.

Michael is an exceptional lawyer. Admired as much for his skill as for his integrity, he dedicates an extraordinary portion of his time to pro bono work, is committed to legal education and to the BC legal community, and is a vocal advocate for diversity in the profession.

Rightfully, he is widely respected by his peers, clients and the wider community.”

He is recognized as a leading practitioner by Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, Lexpert, The Legal 500, and The Best Lawyers in Canada in areas including public law, commercial litigation, and appellate litigation. He has acted in 28 Supreme Court of Canada appeals, and is one of only a handful of lawyers to be appointed by the Chief Justice of Canada as amicus curiae. In naming him 2017 British Columbia Litigator of the Year, Benchmark Canada called him “the lawyer that everyone in BC is talking about”.

Michael demonstrates exemplary commitment to pro bono work. He has acted for an array of local, national, and international public interest organizations, including the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network, Pivot Legal Society, and UNAIDS. He has also acted in over a dozen cases for the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association.

Contributing extensively and meaningfully to the BC legal community, Michael has represented the Law Society of British Columbia at every level of court. With the CBA, he has served on the BC Branch’s Legislation and Law Reform Committee, presented at conferences and section meetings, and consulted in connection with Supreme Court of Canada interventions. He is also heavily involved in the activities of the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute, which provides free, non-partisan advocacy advice to lawyers arguing Supreme Court of Canada appeals.
