McCarthy Tétrault partner Lisa Vogt renamed one of Canada’s most powerful women

Toronto, December 4, 2013 — McCarthy Tétrault congratulates partner Lisa Vogt on receiving a Women’s Executive Network (WXN) Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 award for 2013. Ms. Vogt, the firm’s Chief Diversity and Engagement Officer, and the former head of its Real Property & Planning Group and former BC Region’s regional managing partner, will be recognized at the WXN’s gala tonight in Toronto. This marks Ms. Vogt’s second time receiving the honour after being a recipient in 2010.

The WXN’s Top 100 awards have celebrated and highlighted women’s achievements in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors across the country, while corporate Canada has increasingly been promoting female leaders into senior management and corporate director roles.

"We are extremely proud of Lisa," said Paul Boniferro, National Leader, Practices and People. "Lisa’s dedication to supporting women and diversity initiatives at McCarthy Tétrault is unwavering. She’s had a tremendous impact on our firm’s advancements in diversity, and she continues to inspire women in the legal profession. With Lisa’s leadership, we look forward to continuing our strides towards diversity and inclusiveness in the workplace."

McCarthy Tétrault has identified diversity, and particularly gender diversity, as one of its key strategic priorities. In 2012, McCarthy Tétrault became the first Canadian law firm to sign the Catalyst Accord, which aspires to increase the percentage of women on boards to 25 % by 2017. Currently, women comprise 25 % of the firm’s senior leadership team and 27 % of its board. These are among many other of the firm’s "firsts" in the Canadian legal industry – such as the creation of the Women’s Initiative Network in 2004, the National Diversity Committee and the appointment of a Chief Diversity Officer.

"This is a great honour that I am proud to accept," said Lisa Vogt. "Diversity connects us to each other and adds value to our services, which allow us to provide better results for our clients. I am proud to be part of a firm that deems women in leadership as a business imperative, and where diversity is woven into the operational core. I congratulate my fellow award recipients and look forward to inspiring other women in business to continue succeeding in their industries."

This evening, over 1,100 attendees will honour the 2013 Top 100 award gala in Toronto. WXN has honoured 728 women and inducted 93 of them into the Top 100 Hall of Fame. The full list of WXN’s 100 Most Powerful Women in 2013 can be found at https://www.wxnetwork.com/top-100/top-100-women.
