McCarthy Tétrault Introduces Return to Office Vaccination Policy

August 20, 2021, Toronto – McCarthy Tétrault’s highest priority has been, and will always remain, the health and safety of our people, their families and the communities in which we live and work.

After extensive consultations and considering the decisions made by our governments, clients and leading Canadian businesses, the Firm has announced a vaccination policy requiring all employees to be vaccinated, which is widely recognized as the most effective way to help protect people from the spread of COVID-19.

“We have worked very hard over the course of the past 18 months to do our best to keep people safe. It’s important to come together again, but we need to do it safely for the security of all, including the health of our Firm members,” advises Dave Leonard, McCarthy Tétrault, Chief Executive Officer and partner.

Beginning August 23, 2021, all Firm members will be required to confirm that they are fully vaccinated in order to return to the Firm’s offices or attend a Firm event, whether on or off site.

“It is critical that we use all available tools at our disposal to ensure that our offices and other in-person Firm events are as safe as possible, and this policy will help us achieve that” concludes Dave Leonard.

The Firm understands that the reality of certain members might require an exemption and will consider individual requests from those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical or other grounds on a case-by-case basis. If a Firm member is granted an exemption, they will be accommodated in a way that protects their and other Firm members’ safety as much as possible.

The Return to Office Plan was developed with Firm members’ safety and comfort in mind, as we all get reacquainted with the reality of being in shared spaces. The gradual return will start as of October with one day a week, progressively increasing to three by the end of the year. A virtual office reservation system has also been implemented to ensure contact tracing, appropriate space management and social distancing requirements until public health authorities advise otherwise.
