McCarthy Tétrault hosts an Evening with Kathleen Taylor, Chair of RBC

Toronto, May 18, 2016 — May is Mentoring Month at McCarthy Tétrault. We take this time to shine a spotlight on the importance of mentorship and recognize individuals who have made valuable contributions as mentors in the firm. “Mentoring is a vital part of our lawyers’ career progression and development,” says CEO David Leonard. “We value mentoring as it not only makes us better lawyers, it helps us to learn to better serve our clients.”

To kick-off Mentoring Month, the firm’s Toronto office hosted a fireside chat with prominent Canadian business leader and champion of mentoring, Kathleen Taylor, Chair of the Board at Royal Bank of Canada.

As the first woman to chair the board of a major Canadian bank, Kathleen Taylor is a trailblazer who has accomplished a number of extraordinary career milestones since the start of her career as a lawyer in private practice, to her previous role as President and CEO of Four Seasons Hotels Limited. In the fireside chat, moderated by two of the firm’s senior associates, Carole Piovesan and Heidi Gordon, Kathleen spoke to the full-capacity crowd of firm lawyers, clients and industry professionals and shared her best practices for developing relationships and leveraging those relationships to succeed in competitive fields such as business and law.

MT Advance: An Evening with Kathleen Taylor, Chair of RBC was conceived by the event’s moderators, Carole Piovesan and Heidi Gordon, both of whom have been continuously recognized for their commitment as mentors to law students and young associates, both at the firm and in the community at-large.

Mentoring Month is marked by the firm each year during the month of May with a number of events at each of the firm’s office across Canada, concluding with the Mentoring Awards held at the end of the month, where the firm recognizes the efforts that go into these powerful relationships.
