Toronto, September 17, 2018 — McCarthy Tétrault proudly celebrates being awarded the Americas Energy Tax Deal of the Year at the 13^th annual Americas Tax Awards, hosted by the International Tax Review in New York City on September 13. Celebrating the largest, most innovative, complex and impactful client work, the awards recognize  transactions, planning or cases that break new ground and set market precedents.

This award recognizes the firm’s work on Enbridge Inc.’s acquisition of Spectra Energy Corp in 2017. The C$37 billion transaction is the largest foreign acquisition ever completed by a Canadian company and resulted in Enbridge becoming North America’s largest energy infrastructure company.

This year the firm received a total of 12 nominations with Christian Meighen, Practice Group Leader for our national tax practice accepting the award on the firm’s behalf. Partners and tax lawyers Ron Mar and Rob Nearing both played instrumental roles in the winning transaction.
