McCarthy Tétrault commends Timothy Ellam and John Osler on Queen’s Counsel appointments

Calgary, January 3, 2014 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that two of its Calgary partners, Timothy Ellam and John Osler, were appointed to the office of Queen’s Counsel in Alberta. The prestigious honour recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to Alberta’s legal community and public life.

Mr. Ellam is a member of McCarthy Tétrault’s Litigation and Intellectual Property Groups, and a former member of the Board of Partners. His practise focuses on intellectual property and related commercial matters. Mr. Ellam also frequently works on significant international arbitrations and on litigation proceedings in the High Court of Justice (Commercial Court). He is a Solicitor Advocate (Higher Courts – Civil) in the Law Society of England and Wales, and holds Rights of Audience in the Higher Courts in that jurisdiction. In addition, he was the first lawyer in Canada to be awarded the designation of International Bar Association Fellow in International Legal Practice. He was also recently elected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Mr. Osler is a member of the firm’s Business Law Group and former head of the Group in the Alberta region. His practice focuses on M&A, securities and corporate law. He advises public corporations on a wide variety of securities and corporate finance matters, including corporate governance, M&A and securities regulatory matters, shareholder disputes, and Canadian and US stock exchanges. He also advises issuers and underwriters on structuring both public and private debt and equity offerings. Mr. Osler is a member of the Alberta Securities Commission Advisory Committee and the former chairman of the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
