McCarthy Tétrault celebrates Clawbie awards
Toronto, January 2, 2014 – McCarthy Tétrault is delighted to announce that its Canadian Appeals Monitor blog received a 2013 Clawbie (Canadian Law Blog Award) in the Practice Group Blog category. The blog, launched in 2011, is named for its excellence in covering Canada’s appellate courts and cases.
Canadian Appeals Monitor is one of McCarthy Tétrault’s 10 blogs covering a variety of practice areas. The blog’s contributors include partners, counsel and associates in the firm’s National Appellate Litigation Group and Opinions Group. It has become a trusted source for Canadian businesses and professions, relating insights on the impact of the legal changes that affect appellate procedure, and providing best practices from the firm’s experiences from advising on more than 1,350 appellate cases, including 135 at the Supreme Court of Canada. The Clawbies highlight in particular one of the blog’s columns, “This Week at the SCC,” as “a strong regular contribution” that “really does take a national firm to pull off.”
The Clawbies also recognize Barry Sookman as a runner-up in the Legal Technology category, an eponymous blog by the former co-chair of the firm’s Technology Group and former head of its Intellectual Property Group. Mr. Sookman is one of Canada's foremost authorities in the area of information technology and intellectual property law. He uses his blog to share his views on a wide range of copyright, Internet and information technology issues.
The Clawbies, now in their eighth year, were created to showcase the best of Canada’s legal blogs and promote a sense of community among legal bloggers. The full list of winners is found at www.clawbies.ca.
