McCarthy Tétrault Associate Adam Ship Receives OBA Award for Excellence in Franchise Law
Toronto, November 9, 2012 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that its associate Adam Ship has been awarded the Ontario Bar Association’s 2012 Markus Cohen QC Memorial Award for Excellence in Franchise Law, in recognition of his outstanding scholarly contribution to the development of franchise law in 2012.
Mr. Ship is Vice-Chair of McCarthy Tétrault’s Franchise Disputes Group, with a practice focused on complex commercial litigation and franchise-distribution law. He has appeared as counsel before all levels of court in Ontario, the Supreme Court of Canada, and various arbitral panels and statutory tribunals. Mr. Ship also provides strategic and risk management advice/opinions in the area of franchise-distribution law, including in the context of drafting and negotiating franchise/distribution agreements, disclosure issues under franchise legislation, reinstatement and renewal of franchises/distributorships, discontinuation of franchise networks, and winding down of franchise locations.
