McCarthy Tétrault advises on E-L Financial's sale of The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company

Toronto, June 12, 2013 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that it is representing E-L Financial Corporation Limited (TSX: ELF) in its pending C$1.125 billion sale of its subsidiary, The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, to The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV).

The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company subsidiary was founded in 1887, with Sir John A. Macdonald as its first president. The transaction, which, subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close before the end of 2013, will help E-L Financial, an investment and insurance holding company, narrow its focus to life and health insurance, and mutual funds and annuity products.
