Kim Thomassin receives Mérite Christine-Tourigny and Avocat émérite distinctions from Barreau du Québec

Montréal, November 3, 2016 — McCarthy Tétrault congratulates Kim Thomassin, National Client Leader and Regional Managing Partner, Québec, for having been singled out by the Barreau du Québec for the Mérite Christine-Tourigny award in June and, yesterday, for the Avocat émérite title. In awarding these distinctions, the Barreau has stressed Kim’s leadership, professional excellence and commitment, in particular, towards the professional advancement of women.

McCarthy Tétrault also congratulates Marc-André Blanchard, the firm’s former Chair and CEO, who was appointed as Canadian ambassador to the United Nations in January 2016. Marc-André has also been awarded the Avocat émérite title, in recognition of his exceptional contributions and commitment to the legal profession and to our firm.

The Mérite Christine-Tourigny award is bestowed each year on a Barreau member whose involvement in the community and contributions to the professional advancement of women lawyers have made a significant impact.

The Avocat émérite title is a prestigious distinction that underlines the professional excellence, exceptional community contributions and career of a lawyer who has helped raise the profile of the legal profession.

In the words of Dave Leonard, CEO of McCarthy Tétrault, “We are extremely proud of the Barreau’s recognition of the leadership shown by Kim and Marc-André within the legal profession and the community. Both of them have played a key role in the shifting of the Canadian legal industry by embracing innovation and placing client needs at the forefront of what we do, as well as spearheading our firm’s commitment to create opportunities for all.”

McCarthy Tétrault was the first Canadian law firm to sign the Catalyst Accord in 2012, which encourages Canadian FP 500 corporations to increase the overall proportion of board seats held by women to 25 percent by 2017. The firm’s management team is made up of an equal number of women and men, and 40 percent of its Board of Partners are women. McCarthy Tétrault’s lawyers and managers are known for their top-calibre legal competence and keen business sense, as well as their contributions to the legal profession and involvement in the communities in which they live and work.
