Fourth Annual Winkler Class Actions Moot hosted by McCarthy Tétrault
Toronto, Monday March 13, 2017 — McCarthy Tétrault LLP is pleased to have hosted the fourth annual Warren K. Winkler Class Actions Moot at its Toronto office. The tournament included teams from McGill University, the University of Toronto, the University of Windsor, and Osgoode Hall Law School to debate a certification motion featuring current issues in Canadian class actions law.
Members of the firm’s class actions group joined in-house counsel from Manulife, Loblaws, BMO, CIBC, RBC, Xerox and TD, and plaintiffs’ counsel from Siskinds LLP and Lax O’Sullivan Lisus Gottlieb LLP for the proceeding. The final round was judged by a distinguished panel composed of the Honourable Chief Justice Warren Winkler, the Honourable Justice Gladys Pardu, and the Honourable Justice Paul Perrell.
Congratulations to the University of Windsor team who were awarded the 2017 Winkler Cup, additional winners include:
- Osgoode Hall Law School team, winner of the Best Plaintiff Factum;
- The University of Toronto team, winner of the Best Defendant Factum;
- Alexandria Matic from the University of Toronto, winner of the Joan Lax Memorial Award for top oralist;
- Amanda Iarusso from the University of Windsor, Second Place oralist;
- Patricia Joseph from Osgoode Hall, Third Place oralist.
