Toronto, November 23, 2022  –  Four McCarthy Tétrault lawyers have been named 2022 Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40, recognizing up and coming individuals who have made outstanding contributions in their legal careers.

Heidi Gordon is a partner in our Business Law group in Toronto. She is a long-standing trusted advisor to many loyal business leaders who routinely engage her on their most important mandates. Heidi has advised founders, private equity firms and executive teams on billions of dollars of complex, high-stakes public and private M&A transactions of all sizes, and across all industries. Her clients describe her as efficient, innovative and solution oriented. As a thought leader and legal innovator, Heidi has helped shape the development of other lawyers, and the practice of law in Canada. Her community involvement includes teaching, acting as pro bono counsel for not-for-profits and serving on the Steering Committee for Women in Capital Markets.

As a litigation partner at McCarthy Tétrault and the vice chair of our National Class Actions group, Michael Rosenberg has litigated class actions for defendants and plaintiffs at trial and at all levels of court, including before the Supreme Court of Canada. Michael most recently led the McCarthy Tétrault teams that represented First Nations in the historic C$8B class action settlement with the Canadian Government over drinking water advisories, and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association in its successful challenge to the constitutionality of prolonged solitary confinement in Canadian prisons. Michael also founded McCarthy Tétrault’s pro bono partnership with Downtown Legal Services to represent impecunious defendants in criminal trials and appeals.

Christine Wadsworth is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault’s Toronto Litigation group, where she has built a successful practice focusing on commercial disputes, professional liability, white collar defence and internal investigations. Christine has extensive courtroom experience and has advanced the law in precedent-setting cases in commercial litigation, medical negligence and end of life disputes. She is one of the leaders of McCarthy’s national accounting firm initiative and a co-director of the firm’s pro bono criminal defence program, which is a partnership with the University of Toronto’s Downtown Legal Services. She contributes to the legal profession through mentoring and teaching the next generation of lawyers. She taught Evidence Law at Osgoode Hall’s Common Law LLM program and teaches Trial Advocacy at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law.

Lance Williams is the Vancouver lead of McCarthy Tétrault’s Bankruptcy and Restructuring group, where he focuses on commercial insolvency and restructuring. Along with advising court officers, debtors and creditors, he’s known for leading complex, cross-jurisdictional mandates. Lance is a member of both the invitation-only Insolvency Institute of Canada as well as the International Insolvency Institute. Lance joined the firm in 2021 and has made a profound impact on the firm’s national bankruptcy and restructuring practice in western Canada.
