Congratulations to McCarthy Tétrault partner, David Emmanuel Roberge, on receiving the title of Advocatus Emeritus by the Barreau du Québec. This prestigious award reflects excellence in David’s professional career, his exceptional contribution to the profession, and his influence as a practitioner and member of the legal community.

David is a partner in the Montréal Litigation Group. Known for his courtroom skill before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, he represents clients on a wide variety of civil and commercial litigation matters, with particular expertise in professional liability, class actions, and environmental law. David has devoted considerable time and expertise to pro bono matters, which have helped advance the rights of numerous groups in Canada and internationally. Working with Lawyers Without Borders, in 2009, David was part of an international training mission in environmental law to the State University of Haiti. His contributions there earned him a Zenith Pro Bono Award from Lexpert magazine. He has also been greatly involved with committees of the Québec Bar and the Canadian Bar Association considering issues surrounding end-of-life care and medical assistance in dying. David also has a long history of advising HIV and AIDS prevention organizations. He further works with the Barreau de Montréal, the Québec Bar Review Committee, and the Alzheimer Society of Montréal. In 2021, David received the Prix Paris-Québec from Justice Pro Bono and the Barreau de Paris Solidarité for his overall pro bono commitment.

David and the other recipients of the Advocatus Emeritus distinction in 2022 will be celebrated at an event held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the Sheraton Center in Montreal.
