Bernadette Dietrich, partner at McCarthy Tétrault, appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario

Toronto, October 5, 2017 — McCarthy Tétrault has the distinct pleasure to announce that our partner Bernadette Dietrich has been appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario in Toronto.

Her contributions to the firm have been immense, having been a trusted advisor to many of our clients (both corporate and personal) and assisting them in their trust, personal tax, estate planning, estate litigation and administration, and charities matters,” says Barbara J. As a partner and chair of the Trusts and Estates section of McCarthy Tétrault’s Tax Group in Toronto, Bernadette Dietrich practised in the areas of trusts, personal tax, estate planning and succession, estate litigation, estate administration, substitute decision-making and charities matters. Ms. Dietrich’s clients included financial institutions, corporate trustees, financial planning firms, owner managers, family businesses, charitable organizations and private clients, whom she advised in the areas of sophisticated estate planning and the establishment and administration of trusts in commercial and personal contexts. A frequent speaker and writer on her areas of expertise, Ms. Dietrich is a co-author of Widdifield on Executors and Trustees, which is often cited by Canadian courts.

Bernadette Dietrich has been a vital member of the Trusts and Estates Bar, an educator and a devoted member of the community, serving as director and vice-chair of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and working with a grassroots charity aimed at providing support to families with Down syndrome children.

Bernadette Dietrich received her LLB from the University of Ottawa in 1986 and her BA (Hons.) from the University of Waterloo. Ms. Dietrich was called to the Ontario bar in 1988.
