Corporate Social Responsibility
Making a Difference Together
Volunteering in and contributing to our communities are core to our identity. The McCarthy Tétrault Foundation has contributed more than $15 million to our communities since it its inception and on pro bono work and access to justice issues, our lawyers have contributed over $32 million in hours spent since 1992. This short video represents who we are and how we are giving back to our communities, one hour and one dollar at a time. We encourage you to watch it and contact us to learn more about our initiatives and how we make a difference.
Our business is about meeting our clients' needs, respecting our people and engaging them to make a difference, minimizing the impact of our operations and investing in local communities. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) at McCarthy Tétrault reflects our long-standing commitment in all of these areas.
We will continue to develop new initiatives and integrate principles of corporate social responsibility into the way we conduct our business.
Our CSR efforts focus on four areas:
We are proud of what we are doing across the firm. As we build teams and work together to uphold our CSR policy, our achievements will be a source of pride for our partners, associates, paraprofessionals and staff.
We create an environment in which everyone feels respected and can contribute to making a difference. Diversity and volunteerism are the core values that guide our efforts to have a positive effect on our workplace and our local communities.
The McCarthy Tétrault Foundation administers our firm-wide charitable giving and sponsorships. Created in 1997, the Foundation is a first among Canadian law firms. It supports a wide range of Canadian hospitals, charities, arts and cultural organizations, and law schools.
Community and Pro Bono Work
We take pride in making our communities better places to live and work. Through pro bono services, we help disadvantaged and low-income individuals with matters related to civil liberties, human rights and financial, business, labour and employment law.
Environmental considerations play an important role in our processes and decisions. We aim to become a leader among major Canadian law firms in reducing our environmental impact. Our efforts include installing energy-efficient video-conferencing facilities to reduce travel, donating old computer equipment to charity, and increasing our recycling programs in our offices.
