On April 30, 2014, Mattel Inc., the world’s No. 1 toy maker,  acquired Mega Brands Inc., the world’s second-largest maker of construction sets after Denmark’s Lego, for a total value of US$460 million. The transaction marks the sale of Canada’s largest publicly traded toy company, which was founded in 1967, and grew to become the leading maker of pre-school construction toys.

Mattel, headquartered in El Segundo, California, is a worldwide designer, manufacturer and marketer of toys and family products. Mattel's portfolio of brands includes Barbie, Hot Wheel, Fisher-Price and others.

MEGA Brands, headquartered in Montréal, Québec, is Canada’s largest toy maker, and has approximately 1,700 employees with offices, manufacturing facilities and distribution centers in 17 countries.
