McCarthy Tétrault’s Philippe H. Bélanger and Julie-Martine Loranger awarded the distinction of Advocatus Emeritus
Montréal, August 10, 2017 — McCarthy Tétrault wishes to congratulate Philippe H. Bélanger and Julie-Martine Loranger, who have both been conferred the honorary distinction of Advocatus Emeritus (Ad. E.) by the Québec Bar. Awarded for the past ten years to members of the Bar who are a source of inspiration and achievement, this distinction recognizes the professional excellence and exceptional careers of lawyers who have helped raise the image and outreach of the profession.
“When a spotlight is shone on a lawyer with such an impressive number of major clients who have retained her services for decades, and a lawyer who is recognized as a leader in bankruptcy and restructuring law and has played a significant role as a conference speaker, author and teacher for 25 years, it highlights the full strength of our firm and the contribution that we can make to serving our clients,” says Karl Tabbakh, Managing Partner for the Québec region. “Julie-Martine and Philippe are exceptional members of our team. We are extremely proud to see the Bar recognize their careers and talents.”
Julie-Martine Loranger is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Group. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience, her practice focuses on class actions related to contractual and extra-contractual matters, product liability, tort, consumer protection and securities. Julie-Martine has appeared before courts of all jurisdictions, including the Supreme Court of Canada, the Québec Court of Appeal and the Superior Court. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Philippe H. Bélanger is a partner in the firm’s Bankruptcy and Restructuring Group. He advised the Canadian government regarding the reform of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act. Philippe has been a lecturer in the Faculty of Law at Université de Montréal for 25 years, is the co-author of two texts on bankruptcy and restructuring, and is the author of numerous articles published in various law journals.
