McCarthy Tétrault to receive first-ever Chambers Canada Diversity Award
September 25, 2015
Toronto, September 25, 2015 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that along with Lawyers Without Borders Canada (LWBC), it has been awarded the first-ever Chambers Canada Diversity Award in recognition of our work for the advancement of LGBTI rights. The award will be presented to litigation associates Élisabeth Brousseau and Roland Hung at the upcoming Chambers Canada Awards to be held October 1 in Toronto.
In particular, Chambers Canada will be recognizing Ms. Brousseau and Mr. Hung’s recent exploratory mission to Guatemala with LWBC where they examined the plight of the country’s LGBTI community – a community that is subject to persistent acts of discrimination and violence. Alongside LWBC representatives Rafael Campos and Daniel Crespo, Ms. Brousseau and Mr. Hung met with local stakeholders such as the country’s Human Rights Ombudsman and human rights lawyers, and participated in a number of round table discussions to collectively formulate ideas and strategies to help advance the rights of Guatemala’s LGBTI community.
“It is no secret that McCarthy Tétrault prioritizes diversity and inclusion. That is why it is an exceptionally proud moment for our firm that two of our associates will be recognized with the first-ever Chambers Canada Diversity Award. Élisabeth and Roland’s work with LWBC in Guatemala is an excellent example of the impact we as lawyers and collectively as a firm can have on the global community at-large,” Lisa Vogt, Chief Diversity and Engagement Officer. “Kudos to Elisabeth and Roland and to LWBC for their well-deserved recognition.”
McCarthy Tétrault is the only major Canadian law firm to be granted the status of “Partner without Border” with LWBC,
