McCarthy Tétrault’s Simon Potter awarded the Jules-Deschênes Prize
June 4, 2015
Montréal, June 4, 2015 — McCarthy Tétrault congratulates Montréal partner Simon Potter on his receipt of the Jules-Deschênes Prize by the Quebec Branch of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). The Prize recognizes the contribution of a member of the CBA’s Quebec Branch who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and outstanding team spirit through his continual commitment to the Association.
From the outset of his career in law, Mr. Simon Potter has been an exceptionally active member of the CBA, both at the national and Quebec levels. He has contributed to some of the Association’s most significant mandates and projects, including the introduction of anti-terrorism and money laundering regulations and maintaining the Quebec Branch’s voice within the larger national Association. Mr. Potter was also the President of the Quebec Branch from 1991 to 1992 and of the national Association from 2002 to 2003.
Mr. Potter is an experienced litigator and highly regarded corporate and commercial trial and appellate lawyer. He has extensive experience in all areas of administrative law dealing with trade and competition issues and has served on several binational panels under the Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA to review anti-dumping and countervail claims and to hear cross-border disputes. In addition to the active role Mr. Potter plays in the CBA and its Quebec Branch, he is also a member of the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the London Court of International Arbitration, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and the Canadian Bar Association’s Class Action Task Force.
