Toronto, February 6, 2015 — McCarthy Tétrault congratulates Toronto partner Godyne Sibay on being celebrated for her leadership and impact as co-chair, together with Francesca Shaw, TD AMCB Bank, of the Women Gaining Ground (WGG), an innovative initiative of United Way. While co-chair, Ms. Sibay and WGG fundraised more than $1 million, an increase of 58% from 2013, and participation in the campaign increased from 98 to 188 members. Through their donations and volunteer efforts, WGG supports strategic programs to help women in Toronto to self-sufficiency through education and employment. WGG was started in 2007 by Kirby Chown, former Regional Managing Partner of McCarthy Tétrault, and Martine Irman, Vice-Chair, TD Securities. Ms. Sibay was also a member of the 2014 United Way Campaign Cabinet.

“We are proud of Godyne’s significant contribution to the community through her involvement in Women Gaining Ground,” Paul Boniferro, National Leader, Practices and People at McCarthy Tétrault. “Godyne’s volunteer work and passion to support women in our community is inspiring.”

Ms. Sibay is a partner in the firm’s Real Property, Project Development and Infrastructure Group and member of the firm’s Board of Partners. She is an experienced practitioner with extensive experience in project development, public-private partnerships, public procurement and real estate including acquisition, disposition, leasing and construction matters. Ms. Sibay is a founding member of the Toronto chapters of Women in Infrastructure and Women’s Leadership Initiative, Urban Land Institute (ULI), and presently sits on both Steering Committees. She is also a member of the Global ULI Leadership Working Group and a member of the 2015 ULI Toronto Management Committee. She was selected as one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women in 2011 by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) and is currently on the WXN Top 100 Advisory Board.

Last week, the firm was also awarded the United Way Toronto Campaign Team Spirit Award for Professional Services recognizing "creativity, innovation and overall commitment to building a better city for everyone". The award was also earned for the firm’s overall increase from its 2013 campaign giving total. McCarthy Tétrault was honoured in a diverse field of other business and legal sector nominees for the Toronto office’s “Tower to Tower” campaign in support of the United Way’s Tower Renewal program. Lawyers and staff from each of the McCarthy Tétrault offices across Canada participate in United Way campaigns, demonstrating their passion and the firm’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which we reside and work.
