McCarthy Tétrault Authors Cross-Border Class Actions Chapter in ABA’s Recent Developments in Business and Corporate Litigation, 2014

Annual Review of Developments in Business and Corporate Litigation 2013 Edition

Toronto, July 15, 2014 – McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that four of its litigators authored the "Cross-Border and Multi-Jurisdiction Class Actions – A Canadian Perspective" chapter in the American Bar Association’s Recent Developments in Business and Corporate Litigation, 2014 Edition.

The 2014 edition of Recent Developments spans a broad range of substantive areas of business law, providing an overview of business and corporate litigation topics that have emerged during the past year. In their chapter on class actions, McCarthy Tétrault litigators Anthony Alexander, Christopher Hubbard, Elder Marques and Michael O’Brien – all members of the firm’s Litigation Group in Toronto – review and comment on how Canadian courts have applied jurisdictional principles in the class action context, both in assessing whether certification is appropriate and in relation to the enforcement of foreign class action orders. The other chapters in the two-volume review summarize cases, legislation, trends and developments in antitrust, corporate, employment, bankruptcy and other facets of business law.

The authors collaborated with partners Shaun Finn (in the firm’s Montreal office) and Jill Yates (in the firm’s Vancouver office) to ensure that their contribution reflected key developments across Canada.

McCarthy Tétrault partner Anthony Alexander’s commercial practice focuses on written advocacy and the provision of opinions in both complex litigation and transactional matters.

Partner Christopher Hubbard’s corporate/commercial litigation practice includes class actions, mining litigation, product liability and product recalls, insurance, contractual disputes, securities litigation and shareholder disputes. He also acts in medical malpractice and professional liability cases.

Partner Elder Marques’ practice includes complex corporate and commercial disputes, class actions, securities litigation and shareholder applications, defamation and a broad range of professional liability cases.

Associate Michael O’Brien’s practice includes corporate and commercial disputes, competition matters, renewable energy matters, medical malpractice disputes and professional liability cases.
