McCarthy Tétrault strengthens its Franchise & Distribution Group with the addition of Helen Fotinos
April 1, 2014
Toronto, April 1, 2014 — Signaling McCarthy Tétrault’s expanding presence in the franchise marketplace, the firm is proud to announce the arrival of Helen Fotinos as Partner in the Toronto office. The continuing growth of the Franchise & Distribution Group is a significant advantage for McCarthy Tétrault’s franchise clients who have recently navigated a recovering yet uncertain economy while operating in an increasingly competitive, dynamic and global market.
"Our firm focuses on the evolving objectives of our clients and our goal is always to maintain and develop the ideal legal resources to address their needs," said Lara Nathans, head of the firm’s National Consumer Products & Retail Group. "Helen’s broad experience as in-house counsel to some of the most successful franchises in the Canadian marketplace will benefit our clients immensely. As former in-house counsel for franchisors, she brings to the firm her perspective and experience making the tough strategic decisions they face — she has been where they are."
Ms. Fotinos’ practice focuses on commercial and franchise law. She joins McCarthy Tétrault from St. Louis Franchise Limited, where she held the position of General Counsel and led the development of their legal and corporate infrastructure, readying the company for national expansion of the franchise. Additionally, Helen spent five years as General Counsel for Kia Canada, one of the fasting growing automotive brands in the world, after several years in private practice.
McCarthy Tétrault’s Franchise & Distribution Group is a national practice group providing advice and representation on all franchise matters, including disputes, negotiation of agreements and disclosure. The firm advises clients on day-to-day issues as well as strategic changes with sophisticated distribution or franchise networks.
The Franchise & Distribution Group is part of the firm’s Consumer Products & Retail group, which brings together lawyers from multiple disciplines to provide integrated, strategic advice to clients across a broad range of industry segments. The firm partners with leading companies in Canada, the U.S. and internationally, offering a "one-stop shop" to meet their legal requirements.
