McCarthy Tétrault is an advisor on two awarded renewable energy project financings
March 28, 2013
Toronto, March 28, 2013 — McCarthy Tétrault is delighted to announce that two transactions on which it advised during 2012 were named among Project Finance’s Deals of the Year:
- North American Wind Deal of the Year
This project will generate renewable energy for approximately 30,000 households, delivered to Hydro-Québec Distribution under a 20-year Electricity Supply Contract. McCarthy Tétrault represented National Bank Financial as the lenders’ agent, with a team that included Marc Dorion, Philippe Leclerc, Richard O’Doherty and Louis-Nicolas Boulanger.
This is McCarthy Tétrault’s second consecutive year to advise on an awarded deal in this category. Last year, the award went to the financing for the 272 MW Seigneurie de Beaupré Wind Farms, on which the firm advised the project sponsors.
These projects provide enough power to serve about 6,440 homes and the power is being sold to the Ontario Power Authority under its Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program. This was the first rated bond financing for a Canadian solar project. McCarthy Tétrault represented NextEra Energy Resources and its affiliates, including a NextEra Energy Canada subsidiary, St. Clair Holding, as the bond issuer, with a team that included Andrew Parker, Stephen Furlan and Jo-Anna Brimmer.
Project Finance’s Deal of the Year awards recognize innovation, repeatability, best practices, problem solving, risk mitigation, value for money and speed of delivery in the financing of infrastructure projects. Published by Euromoney, the awards are now in their 14th year. Several hundred transactions are submitted for award consideration annually.
