McCarthy Tétrault partner Kim Thomassin named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women
December 4, 2012
Toronto, December 4, 2012 — McCarthy Tétrault is delighted to announce that the Women's Executive Network (WXN) named Kim Thomassin as among the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada. Ms. Thomassin is the Managing Partner of McCarthy Tétrault's Québec Region — one of few Canadian women to occupy such a position at a major national law firm while continuing her legal practice, which focuses on project finance, corporate finance, acquisitions and other commercial transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Receiving the esteemed Top 100 award in the Professionals category puts Ms. Thomassin among Canada’s highest-achieving and most powerful business leaders, entrepreneurs and executives in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
"I’m immensely proud of Kim," said Marc-André Blanchard, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of McCarthy Tétrault. "She’s an exceptionally strong lawyer, leader and colleague. I’m not surprised that the WXN has recognized her as one of Canada’s most successful women."
Ms. Thomassin has been a member of McCarthy Tétrault’s national leadership team since 2010. She is also a member of the firm’s National Diversity Committee, in which role she advocates for the advancement of women lawyers. Ms. Thomassin is also a strong proponent of life-long growth and learning, and is a member of McCarthy Tétrault's Professional Resources Committee, which supports the firm's Professional Development Program. In 2010, she received Lexpert’s Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 award.
In her practice, Ms. Thomassin advises on a variety of energy (including hydroelectric, wind, biogas and biomass) and infrastructure projects, including public-private partnerships. She has been involved in some of the most prominent Canadian and international projects and transactions in recent years, acting for such entities as Kruger Energy Port Alma, Innergex Renewable Energy and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. She is listed as a leading banking lawyer in Best Lawyers in Canada, and as a consistently recommended practitioner in Québec City in electricity and in the corporate mid-market in the 2011 Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
"I’m so honoured to be named a Top 100 woman," said Ms. Thomassin. "I’m inspired to continue to be a solid mentor and colleague, as others were for me, and to continue to help promote women in law."
