McCarthy Tétrault Counsel Doug Ewens Receives Diamond Jubilee Medal

Toronto, November 26, 2012 — McCarthy Tétrault is delighted to announce that on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Canadian Tax Foundation has honoured Counsel Doug Ewens, Q.C. with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. A committee of current and former governors of the Canadian Tax Foundation, which was selected as a non-governmental participant in the Diamond Jubilee Medal program this year, nominated and selected Mr. Ewens to receive this national honour. Honorees are awarded Diamond Jubilee Medals for their outstanding contributions to their communities and country.

Mr. Ewens is widely known as a leading tax practitioner, with recognitions in numerous publications internationally. His expertise includes advising on the structuring of business operations and investments in the Canadian resource and energy industries; the structuring of innovative financings and reorganizations of public and private business enterprises; planning for the future structuring of business organizations in a range of industries; the structuring of unique public debt and equity offerings; and tax dispute resolutions. He has represented large energy corporations and financial institutions on a range of major domestic and international projects, and assisted major corporations with dispute resolutions, including those relating to reassessments under the general anti-avoidance rule. He is the chief editor of Taxnet Pro–McCarthy Tétrault Canada Tax Service commentary, and a member of the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society, Canadian Bar Association, International Fiscal Association, Law Society of Alberta and Law Society of Upper Canada. He is also a former Chair of the Canadian Tax Foundation. Mr. Ewens was recently presented with a Lexpert Zenith Award by the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, former Governor General of Canada, in recognition of leadership through innovation.
