McCarthy Tétrault Publishes Canadian Telecommunications Regulatory Handbook

Toronto, March 19, 2012 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce the publication of Canadian Telecommunications Regulatory Handbook, authored by partner Hank Intven.

The 1,200-page book includes a detailed summary of Canadian telecommunications law and regulation, as well as the text of the laws, regulations, policies, rules, orders and other key documents that govern the regulation of telecommunications in Canada.

The book includes:

  • key documents and summaries related to the regulatory framework administered by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and by Industry Canada (including regulation of the radio spectrum and technical telecommunications standards)
  • major policy and regulatory documents issued by these agencies
  • notes on judicial decisions on telecommunications regulation
  • a glossary of terms used in Canadian telecommunications regulation

The selection of CRTC and Industry Canada documents focuses on current regulatory issues, such as spectrum auctions, mobile wireless services regulation, Internet regulation, wholesale service regulation, anti-spam and other consumer protection measures, lawful access proposals, and the Canadian ownership and control regime.
