McCarthy Tétrault Lawyer Joins Ranks of Top Business Women with WXN Award
December 2, 2011
Toronto, December 2, 2011 — Godyne Sibay was honoured last night with Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award from the Women's Executive Network (WXN) in the Professionals category. The Top 100 Awards are Canadian awards for the highest-achieving women in private, public and not-for-profit work. As a winner, Ms. Sibay is in good company, joining more than 500 of Canada's most powerful and successful women, including business leaders, entrepreneurs and executives.
"We are absolutely thrilled that Godyne is being honoured in this way," said Marc-André Blanchard, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of McCarthy Tétrault. "We always knew she was extraordinary — a talented lawyer, a skilled leader and a respected colleague — and now the WXN applauds her remarkable contributions."
Ms. Sibay is a partner in the Real Property, Project Development and Infrastructure Group at McCarthy Tétrault, and a member of the firm's Board of Partners. Highly regarded by both client and colleagues, Ms. Sibay is an undisputed legal leader in her field, leading many of Canada's most significant and groundbreaking development projects, including the Air Canada Centre, the Jarvis Street Campus of Canada’s National Ballet School, BMO Field (home of the Toronto FC), Ernst & Young Tower (home of The Design Exchange), Women’s College Hospital’s Redevelopment Project, Hospital, The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Conference Centre and the 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games Athlete’s Village.
Ms. Sibay champions the firm's outstanding legal services for clients, and as a board member is committed to strengthening the firm's governance standards and expanding its corporate social responsibility mandate — bringing diversity, environmental sustainability, pro bono work and charitable giving into sharper focus. In her 26 years at the firm, Ms. Sibay has been a role model for women lawyers, and has been involved in mentorship organizations such as Toronto Commercial Real Estate Women (TCREW), Women Gaining Ground and Women’s Infrastructure Network.
"I have personally benefitted from the mentorship of other women in my career, and I am honoured to have received this award," said Ms. Sibay. "This accolade from the Women's Executive Network inspires me to continue to be a catalyst for change to ensure that the next generation of women have even greater professional opportunities."
