Toronto, September 28, 2011 — McCarthy Tétrault has received the Canada Tax Disputes Firm of the Year award at International Tax Review’s sixth annual Americas Tax Awards ceremony yesterday in New York.

"Our Tax Disputes Group not only litigates cases in the courts, but it provides innovative and practical solutions to meet our clients’ strategic objectives in tax disputes and we are pleased to have the group’s successes recognized," said Doug Cannon, National Practice Group Leader of McCarthy Tétrault’s Tax Group. "Our award and the nominations we received for transaction awards are a testament to our lawyers’ outstanding abilities to meet the changing needs of our clients to ultimately deliver the best outcome for them."

McCarthy Tétrault was shortlisted in seven other award categories: Canada Tax Firm of the Year; North America Tax Firm of the Year; North America M&A Tax Team of the Year; North America Private Equity Tax Team of the Year; North America Tax Disputes Firm of the Year; North America Capital Markets Tax Team of the Year and Tax Court of Canada Firm of the Year.

The Americas Tax Awards celebrate firms who handle the most innovative client work in North and South America during the past year, and were judged according to size, innovation and complexity of matters. To determine the winners, the International Tax Review’s editorial team undertook extensive research that included consulting numerous tax advisors, private-practice lawyers, tax executives and in-house counsel. The names of the winners and runners-up will be published in International Tax Review’s November 2011 issue.
