Daniel Johnson honoured by the Government of Québec
June 19, 2008
Montréal, June 19, 2008 — McCarthy Tétrault Counsel and former Québec Premier, Daniel Johnson, has been awarded the rank of Grand Officer of the Ordre national du Québec, the Government of Québec’s highest honour.
The Ordre national du Québec is an expression of the pride felt by the people of Québec in the outstanding achievements of those who have had an exceptional impact on Québec or who have expanded the province’s influence in one or more of its areas of interest. The Order was created in 1984.
The seven former premiers who have led Québec since the Order was created are all being honoured in this way. The official investiture ceremony will be held today.
"Daniel Johnson has had a remarkable career," said Marc-André Blanchard, McCarthy Tétrault Managing Partner for the Québec Region. "After many years of graduate study, involvement in economic and social institutions and an early career in business, he chose public service. His commitment to Québec and Canada and his integrity have always guided his actions. It is an honour for McCarthy Tétrault to have Daniel Johnson among its ranks; his contributions are always germane and generous to both our clients and his colleagues."
"I am touched to receive such an honour," said Johnson. "The good of our society and its advancement have always been close to my heart. If my political and legal contributions have helped to advance Québec’s interests in any way, I am very proud and pleased."
