Montréal, February 8, 2006 – McCarthy Tétrault announced today that Clemens Mayr has joined its Montréal office. Mr. Mayr will practise with the firm’s Business Law Group. "We are very excited to welcome Mr. Mayr to our Montréal team," said Québec Regional Managing Partner, Marc-André Blanchard. "With high visibility in both the Québec and national legal communities, this young lawyer is already recognized for his strong business sense and very acute legal mind."

Clemens Mayr was named one of Canada’s "Top 40 Lawyers Under 40" by Lexpert magazine. Mr. Mayr is also listed in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and in the Canadian Who’s Who. He received his LL.B. from the Université de Montréal in 1990 and was called to the Québec Bar in 1991.

Mr. Mayr specializes in corporate finance, international financing and mergers and acquisitions. He has been involved in many different types of transactions both in Canada and internationally. His experience includes initial public offerings in various industry segments, such as pulp and paper, high technology, biotechnology and communications, and in the purchase and sale of companies and business units in Canada and the United States.

McCarthy Tétrault has a history of firsts in the legal industry. In the early 1990s, it became the first Canadian law firm to pioneer a national model. In 2002, McCarthy Tétrault furthered its trailblazer status by adopting a corporate governance structure. "Our ability to adapt to meet changing client needs makes us an attractive choice for Canada’s best lawyers," said W. Iain Scott, Chair and CEO of McCarthy Tétrault. "Our growing team is evidence of this strength."

"The addition of Clemens Mayr to our firm reinforces McCarthy Tétrault’s position as a leader and cornerstone in business law in Québec and in Canada," said Mr. Blanchard. "Mr. Mayr’s decision to become part of McCarthy Tétrault’s team confirms that top legal minds recognize the firm’s pre-eminence and actively seek opportunities to help shape its future."

Over the past two years, McCarthy Tétrault’s Montréal office has attracted many well-respected legal practitioners. The firm has benefited greatly from newcomers such as the Honourable Charles D. Gonthier, QC, counsel and former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada; Guy A. Gagnon, an established tax litigator and advisor; Simon V. Potter, a nationally and internationally recognized litigator; Pierre-Denis Leroux, a Canadian leader in structured financing; and now, Clemens Mayr.

With offices in all major Canadian financial centres, as well as New York and London, U.K., McCarthy Tétrault advises on many of the largest transactions and cases around the world. Authoritative legal directories, such as the International Financial Law Review and the Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, consistently rank McCarthy Tétrault among the world’s top law firms. The most recent edition of Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers describes McCarthy Tétrault as "clearly a leader" with "an enviable position in the marketplace." With close to 750 lawyers representing a broad spectrum of practice areas, it’s easy to see why McCarthy Tétrault is Canada’s premier law firm.
