McCarthy Tétrault Partner Chosen to Review Canadian Telecommunications Policy and Regulatory Framework

Toronto, April 11, 2005 – The Honourable David L. Emerson, Minister of Industry announced today that Hank Intven, senior partner with McCarthy Tétrault was appointed to the Telecommunications Policy Review Panel. The panel will review the Canadian telecommunications policy and regulatory framework and make recommendations before the end of the year to ensure Canada's competitiveness.
"Hank is considered the authority in Canada in the area of communications regulation, and we’re proud that he has been chosen by the Minister for this important task," said W. Iain Scott, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of McCarthy Tétrault.
The panel of distinguished telecommunications experts is comprised of Dr. Gerri Sinclair, former General Manager of Microsoft Canada, André Tremblay, former CEO of Microcell Telecommunications and Hank Intven of McCarthy Tétrault. The panelists will conduct public consultations and commission research into the future of telecommunications policy and regulation in Canada in order to provide recommendations to keep pace with future changes in global telecommunications.

"The panel will be challenged to develop practical and effective policy recommendations that will allow Canada to meet those objectives." Mr. Intven is a former Executive Director of Telecommunications at the CRTC . He has advised telecommunications companies, regulators, governments and financial institutions in Canada and in more than 20 countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.
