The Hon. John Manley Joins McCarthy Tétrault: Esteemed Lawmaker Returns to Private Practice

Ottawa, May 18, 2004 – The Hon. John Manley, former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, has joined McCarthy Tétrault as counsel effective upon the dissolution of the 37th Parliament. He will be based in the firm’s Ottawa and Toronto offices.

Throughout his more than 15 years of public service, the Hon. John Manley has been lauded internationally for his success in forging powerful cross-border security partnerships and global initiatives in technology, education and business. He became a Member of Parliament in 1988, and has served as a Cabinet Minister in many portfolios including Finance, Foreign Affairs and Industry. He was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada in January 2002 and became Canada’s Finance Minister in June 2002. In 2001, he was named TIME Canada Magazine’s "Newsmaker of the Year."

In December, 2003 Mr. Manley agreed to chair a Review Committee reporting to the Ontario Minister of Energy on the role of Ontario Power Generation. This Committee delivered its report to the Minister in March, 2004.
