Biography

Cristel Chabot-Lapointe is an associate in the firm’s Business Law Group in Montréal. Her practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, technology, energy and agribusiness.

She regularly represents various businesses operating in venture capital, agribusiness, technology and energy industries and in the retail sector in the preparation and negotiation of share and asset purchase agreements, shareholders’ agreements, limited partnership agreements, supply agreements and other commercial agreements.

Ms. Chabot-Lapointe also represents food and alcoholic beverage manufacturers, especially with regard to regulatory aspects and general commercial law.

The following are some recent matters in which Ms. Chabot-Lapointe has played an important role:

  • Representation of an agribusiness manufacturer in several mergers and acquisitions transactions and partnerships;
  • Representation of institutional investors and venture capital investment funds in various investments in the agribusiness and technology industries;
  • Representation of a renewable energy producer in the acquisition of a portfolio of hydroelectric power facilities;
  • Representation of a renewable energy developer and producer in the implementation and governance of the holding structures of wind power projects;
  • Representation of a global pharmaceutical manufacturer regarding the sale of a Québec subsidiary.

Ms. Chabot-Lapointe is actively involved in Québec business industry. She is a member of the Nouvelle Génération Committee of Réseau Capital, an organization that brings together various stakeholders of the private equity financing (venture capital) industry in Québec. She is also a member of Jeune Chambre de Commerce de Montréal (JCCM), and she sits on the board of directors of Maison Plein Cœur, a not-for-profit organization that works to prevent illness and promotes health among people living with HIV/AIDS.

Ms. Chabot-Lapointe is also a mentor to the firm’s students, articling students and junior associates.

In 2010, Ms. Chabot-Lapointe obtained a Bachelor of Civil Law/ Bachelor of Laws (B.C.L./LL.B.) from McGill University, where she was awarded the I.M.E Prize in Commercial Law. Prior to her legal studies, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and International Law from Université du Québec à Montréal in 2007 and a diploma in European Integration from Université Jean Moulin Lyon III, in France, in 2006. She was called to the Québec Bar in 2011.
