Vladimira M Ivanov
AREA OF EXPERTISE
Vladimira Ivanov is an associate in our Litigation Group in Toronto. She maintains a broad general litigation practice with an emphasis on complex commercial litigation and professional liability and discipline matters. She has acted as counsel to individuals and corporations involved as both plaintiffs and defendants in commercial disputes, including with respect to a variety of goods and services agreements, non-competition and non-solicitation clauses, and public procurement contracts. She has acted for and advised clients regarding manufacturer, distributor and retailer liability and banking services liability.
Ms. Ivanov has appeared as counsel before all levels of court in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal and Divisional Court, and regularly appears before the Commercial List. She has also advised clients involved in commercial arbitrations. She regularly appears before the Discipline Committee of the Ontario College of Teachers, where she prosecutes professional discipline matters on behalf of the College.
Ms. Ivanov has experience in obtaining urgent injunctive relief, including with respect to the provision of critical services and the protection of copyright, privacy, and commercially sensitive or proprietary information. She has successfully acted for clients seeking Anton Piller injunctions, including in connection with the recognition and enforcement of an Anton Piller order obtained in another jurisdiction.
Ms. Ivanov also regularly practices health law and medical defence, acting as counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association and its member physicians and advising major retailers with respect to personal injury claims.
Ms. Ivanov obtained her BCL and LLB from the McGill University Faculty of Law in 2014. She was named Best Pleader in the Faculty’s inaugural Supreme Court seminar mooting competition, in which she made oral submissions before former Supreme Court Justice Marie Deschamps. She was also a member of the winning team, for which she received the Québec Bar Prize and the Montréal Bar Mooting Prize.
While in law school, Ms. Ivanov acted as Director of Advocacy and University Affairs at the Legal Information Clinic at McGill, where she represented students appearing before the University’s disciplinary and grievance committees and sat on the Board of Directors. She was also an associate editor for the McGill Journal of Law & Health and a tutorial leader for the Legal Ethics & Advocacy program at the Faculty.
In 2010, she received her BA from McGill University, where she studied international development, international relations, and Arabic language, graduating with First Class Honours and Distinction.
Ms. Ivanov was called to the Ontario bar in 2015. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, and The Advocates’ Society.
