Biography
Isabelle Blouin is an associate in our Environmental Group in Montréal.
Ms. Blouin’s practice focuses mainly on environmental counselling in the context of commercial transactions, development of energy or industrial projects or infrastructures, the closure of industrial sites, and the financing of activities or industrial projects. She advises clients on compliance with federal, provincial and municipal environmental laws, permit requirements, the federal and provincial environmental assessment process, land rehabilitation projects, directors’ and officers’ liability, and air emissions requirements. She coordinates environmental due diligences for all types of transactions including initial public offerings, sale of shares and assets of industrial businesses and financing of industrial projects or activities.
Ms. Blouin acts on behalf of clients operating in a wide range of industrial sectors, including chemical products, food processing, clean technologies, pharmaceutical, renewable energy, mining, pulp and paper, and metallurgic. Ms. Blouin has developed an expertise in environmental counselling for the development and financing of wind farm projects.
Ms. Blouin has authored articles on environmental law including on the new federal environmental assessment process 2012, on the impact of contamination on the value of property and on the New Clean Air Regulation.
Before joining the firm, Ms. Blouin practised environmental litigation with a firm that specializes in environmental law. Prior to that, she worked in a public interest law firm in Washington, DC, where she was mainly involved in issues regarding international trade and climate change.
Ms. Blouin received a Civil Law Degree (LL.L) (with Honours) from the University of Ottawa in 2002 and a Graduate Diploma (D.E.S.S.) in North American Common Law from the Université de Montréal in 2005.
She was called to the Québec bar in 2004 and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
