Richard Drouin, C.C., O.Q., Q.C.
Richard Drouin is counsel in the law firm of McCarthy Tétrault. He is also Chair of Stonebridge Financial. He received his undergraduate degree from l’Université de Montréal (Jean-de-Brébeuf) and his law degree from Université Laval in Québec City.
Until recently, Mr. Drouin was the Chairman of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (which oversees the reliability of the bulk power system in North America). From 1988 to 1995, he was the Chairman and CEO of Hydro-Québec. In 2002, he was nominated the Canadian Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada. He was the Chairman of the Organizing Committees for both World Energy Congress, held in Montréal in 1989 and 2010.
Mr. Drouin was the Chairman of Abitibi-Consolidated Inc., Collège des administrateurs de sociétés, Fortis Ontario, Stelco Inc., as well as of Université Laval. He was also member of several boards of directors, including: Aéroports de Montréal, American Superconductor Corporation, British Airports Authority (BAA), Canada Trust, Coca-Cola, Gesca (French newspaper), Nstein Technologies, President's Choice Financial, Provigo and Groupe TVA Inc.
Mr. Drouin is companion of the Order of Canada and officer of Ordre national du Québec. He is a recipient of the "Gloire de l’Escolle" Medal of Université Laval. In 1993, he was awarded an honorary degree by the Université Lumière in Lyon, France. In 2011, he was awarded the title advocatus emeritus by the Québec Bar in recognition of his outstanding professional achievements.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Honorary Consul of Great Britain in Québec City.
