Pierre-Jérôme Bouchard is a partner in our Litigation Group in Montréal. His practice encompasses class actions, commercial litigation as well as medical, product liability and intellectual property disputes at both the trial and appellate levels.
Mr. Bouchard has pleaded before all levels of court in Québec.
His most recent representative experience includes:
- defending a Canadian tobacco company in connection with class actions regarding addiction and disease;
- defeating a proposed class action against an Australian mining company for its alleged wrongful involvement in the suppression of an insurrection by the military in the Democratic Republic of the Congo;
- defending a leading international tobacco company against a multi-billion dollar health care costs recovery lawsuit brought by the government of Quebec;
Mr. Bouchard is a contributor to the Commercial Litigation and Arbitration Review, a quarterly publication by LexisNexis, and a member of its board of editors. He has presented on issues related to mining law, securities class actions and evidence.
Mr. Bouchard serves as regional coordinator, Québec region, to the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute, which provides advocacy advice to lawyers scheduled to appear in Supreme Court of Canada appeals.
Mr. Bouchard received his LLB from the Université Laval in 2003. Prior to joining the firm as a lawyer in 2006, he completed an LLM at Columbia University in New York, with a focus on intellectual property, and served as a clerk to the Honourable Justice Louis LeBel of the Supreme Court of Canada. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Bouchard was an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York, where he worked on a wide variety of litigation matters, including securities fraud, intellectual property, breach of contract, antitrust and bankruptcy proceedings, as well as regulatory investigations and arbitrations. He returned to McCarthy Tétrault in 2010.
Mr. Bouchard was called to the Barreau du Québec in 2006 and to the New York bar in 2007.
