Biography
Lorne Salzman is a partner in our Business Law Group in Toronto. His practice focuses on competition law, foreign investment screening and telecommunications regulation.
Mr. Salzman has extensive experience in representing clients in contentious and non-contentious competition law matters. He advises clients on competition law aspects of mergers, joint ventures, strategic alliances, dominant behaviour, cartel behaviour, pricing policies and distribution practices. He navigates matters through, and prepares submissions to, the Canadian Competition Bureau.
Mr. Salzman advises clients on compliance with Canadian ownership and control rules that apply in a number of industry sectors and on complying with the investment screening rules under the Investment Canada Act.
Mr. Salzman represents clients in telecommunications proceedings before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and Industry Canada. He has participated in proceedings on Canadian ownership and control assessment, resale and sharing of carrier services, interconnection, enhanced services, carrier rates, satellite services, unbundling of carrier service rates, local competition and spectrum licensing.
He has also assisted clients in contracting for telecommunications services and equipment, acquisition of computer hardware, software and systems, technology transfer, and developing marketing and distribution arrangements.
Mr. Salzman is listed in the all editions of the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, a guide to the leading law firms and practitioners in Canada, as a leading lawyer in the area of telecommunications. He is also appears in the 2006 edition of Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business as a leading lawyer in the area of technology, media and telecommunications.
He received his LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1974, and was called to the Ontario bar in 1975.
