She represents global and domestic mining companies in a variety of commercial matters, including multi-million dollar contract disputes, suits involving the ownership of mineral rights, litigation concerning defective work and outstanding receivables, and all manner of construction disputes in a mining context.

Aidan is Editor-in-Chief of the Mining in the Courts publication, which provides an overview of Canadian case law impacting the mining industry and offers perspective and insights on issues of interest in the mining sector. She is also a frequent presenter at the Mining in the Courts seminars.

Environmental Law

Aidan represents a variety of clients in litigation involving environmental and aboriginal law issues. She has developed particular experience with contaminated sites litigation and related issues, including internal investigations, and was part of a team acting for the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in respect of a remediation order issued for a former wood treatment plant. She was also counsel for a major developer client in litigation concerning environmental and First Nations consultation and accommodation issues in a highly political context, at both the BC Supreme Court and the BC Court of Appeal.

Insurance Coverage

Aidan advises and assists clients with insurance coverage matters, primarily in connection with construction projects and other commercial endeavours, including complex proofs of loss and coverage disputes arising from property and liability policies. She recently acted for two major developer clients in an insurance coverage dispute arising out of the denial of coverage on a claim involving differential settlement of the foundation of a commercial property.

Aidan has written on the topics of construction, real property, mining, insurance coverage, and commercial litigation, and she has delivered legal education presentations on a variety of topics to clients and other counsel.

Aidan is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the American Bar Association (ABA).  She serves on the executive of the Construction Law section of the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, and as Vice-Chair on four committees of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) of the ABA. In 2012, she was selected as one of 23 lawyers to participate in a Leadership Academy offered by the ABA, which she successfully completed in 2013. Aidan has served as a mentor through the YWCA High School Mentorship Program, and for several years she led the Unaccompanied Minors Project in Vancouver, a pro bono initiative in which lawyers from our firm act as representatives for minor children arriving in Canada without parents or guardians.
