Virtual Advocacy: Litigating from a Distance now available

February 28, 2023 – Serving as an invaluable resource for judges, lawyers, and law students, McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce the release of Virtual Advocacy: Litigating from a Distance, a leading treatise on conducting dispute resolution virtually.

Compiled and edited by McCarthy Tétrault’s Sean Petrou and Akiva Stern, the book features contributions from judges and some of Canada’s leading lawyers, including many at McCarthy Tétrault. It provides practical advice on the procedures and strategies for resolving disputes with the raft of new technologies and processes arising after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Designed as a practice guide for easy reference and pointed support, the book covers virtual dispute resolution matters in the context of

  • Civil Litigation, dealing with civil actions at each level of court;
  • Non-Civil Litigation, addressing administrative tribunals and arbitrations; and
  • Virtual Advocacy Considerations, covering a variety of general concerns no matter what virtual advocacy forum legal professionals are in.

McCarthy Tétrault contributors include Jordan Bierkos, Sam Rogers, Jacob Klugsberg, Alexandra Cocks, Eric Pellegrino, Moya Graham, Sarit E. Batner, Holly Kallmeyer, Jamie S. S. Holtom, Edwin Mok, Andrew Medico, Michael Feder, K.C., Connor Bildfell, Robin McKechney, Alexander Steele, Thomas N.T. Sutton, Gillian P. Kerr, William Main, and Adam Dobkin.

McCarthy Tétrault, LexisNexis, and the Toronto Lawyers Association are co-hosting the book’s launch on May 24. Sarit Batner will be joined by Justices Fred Myers and Lucille Shaw of the Superior Court of Justice and Justice David Brown from the Court of Appeal for Ontario for a panel discussion touching on the book’s themes. The program contains 30 minutes of Professionalism content and is eligible for up to 30 minutes of Substantive content. You can register here.
