We’re not your ordinary intellectual property firm, and we’re seeking an extraordinary patent lawyer. We are looking for business-oriented, practical, and analytical thinkers who have a passion for understanding how IP can be strategically registered, acquired, managed, and deployed by our clients. Their technical skills need to be the best of the best.
Our IP team is consistently recognized in Canada for leading IP prosecution, IP commercial, and IP litigation expertise by reputable legal directories, including Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, Legal 500, Managing IP, IAM Patent 1000, World Trademark Review, Who’s Who Legal, and numerous Lexpert publications. Managing IP awarded the firm and our IP litigation practice with two Milestone Case of the Year Awards at the 2016 North America Awards.
Our ideal candidate will have the following credentials:
- Creative and entrepreneurial thinker with a strong market focus and outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Post-secondary degree in electrical engineering (preferred), computer science, or applied physics.
- Minimum 2–5 years of post-call patent prosecution experience focused on high technology inventions. Patent agent qualification and some trademark prosecution exposure preferred.
- Excellent academic and professional credentials.
- Strong analytical, technical, communication, and drafting skills.
- Qualified to practice law in Ontario or another Canadian jurisdiction.
The successful applicant will be part of a dynamic national team servicing a sophisticated Canadian and foreign client base. This position provides an opportunity to support a diverse intellectual property practice encompassing: IP strategy advice; domestic and foreign patent and trademark prosecution (including oppositions); IP-related commercial contracts; opinion work and associated searches in the areas of patents, trademarks, and copyright; and IP support in the context of corporate transactions and litigation.
